If you are in a room or property that does not have Wi-Fi access, you can connect your device to the network by using the Ethernet socket in your room. Each device you wish to use must first be registered to use the wired network with the IT and Digital Services team.

Finding your MAC address

The IT and Digital Services support team will need your MAC address, this is a unique identifier belonging to your network device. These are quick methods you can use to obtain your MAC address on Windows.

Windows

  1. Navigate to StartSettingsNetwork & InternetEthernet
  2. Click on the active ethernet connection you are using
  3. Scroll down to find the Physical address (MAC) which will show the address

Please then send this address to itsupport@joh.cam.ac.uk for the IT and Digital Services Support team to whitelist on our wired network.

macOS

  1. Open System Settings using the Apple menu in the top left of your screen
  2. Click Network in the settings sidebar
  3. Select your Ethernet connection
  4. Click on the Details... button on the top right of the window
  5. Select Hardware and you'll see the MAC address
